Thanks for sharing! Are you on HRT? And which statin? I keep hearing mixed info on which type is best for apoe4/4 carriers. Do we want it to cross the blood brain barrier or not?
Thanks for this wealth of info, Karin! Congrats to you, all of your lifestyle and research is paying off (and congrats on the Klotho!) I have strong family history both sides, but I’m doing all the things.
Do you track Desmosterol? If so, are you able to keep that above 1 while driving apob <55? I’m not able to do that with statin (even low-dose)+zetia+supplements and diet/lifestyle. Lots of cholesterol genes besides the 4/4. Waiting on my first cardiology appt to see if I can find someone who understands this and can put me on bempedoic acid or pcsk9 inhibitor instead of statin while we wait on obecetrapib.
Thanks! Yes, I track Desmosterol. It remains consistently high whether I am on a statin or not. Absolute value 2.3 (without a statin, it was 2.4) and on the same recent lab, my ApoB was 55. RetainMed was happy with it being that high. Have you signed up for the SPINOZA trial?
I am 54, so don’t qualify unfortunately, unless they are still recruiting into the beginning of next year. My Desmosterol falls to .8 from 2 when I take a statin, and apob is not even that low, I can get it to 70.
I’m writing an article on Klotho right now and I’m friends with Dena Dubal (did a lot of the foundational Klotho work). If you’ve got that variant , you’re very very lucky! It is a very potent mitigator of a whole host of negative genetics, especially apoe4! 🎉
I've seen Dena's interview with Peter Attia - but I have not dug deeper into the mechanism of KL/VS variant. I had already seen that rs9536314 was G/T on my 23andme data - but RetainMed confirmed I carry the variant.

Thanks for posting this! I just checked my Klotho and have the same as you according to 23andme. Yay!
Good work and lucky re the Klotho , a lot of positive things .

Wonderful to hear about your good test results!
